Bill Payzant, President


Bill created Nautilus because he has a passion to make people’s lives a bit easier by reducing the stress associated with building and owning a home.  Bill believes this can be achieved by focusing on long-term solutions, over quick fixes, and top quality, energy efficient construction. Bill concentrates on communication between the company and our clients to ensure satisfaction with every step of the process. By staying true to the company’s Core Values and Mission Nautilus aims to continuously grow and develop with our clients.

Bill Payzant grew up on Cape Cod, MA before heading to Clinton, New York to receive his Bachelor of Arts at Hamilton College. Now, Bill has over a decade of experience building, renovating, and maintaining coastal homes under his belt.  Bill’s building career started in New England restoring older, run-down homes back to their historic beauty.  Quickly he moved into building custom coastal homes in Cape Cod. Bill then moved to Charleston in 2006 with his wife, Gretchen, and their three children to be closer to their family and enjoy all the wonderful things Charleston has to offer.  Bill previously worked at Daly & Sawyer Construction as the Director of Operations for three and a half years before founding Nautilus in 2010. In addition to his daily work at Nautilus, he is the past Vice-Chairman of the Charleston Guild.

In Bill’s spare time he enjoys sailing, golf, and traveling. Bill loves taking advantage of the Lowcountry by spending time at the beach, downtown or at backyard parties with his family and friends.


Denise Carpentier, Special Projects Manager


The Coast Guard stationed the Carpentiers to Charleston in 2000 for a two year tour.  It was love at first sight and they planted their roots here. Denise attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and graduated from Boston College with a degree in Finance. After leaving her position as a Computer Systems Analyst for the Department of the Navy, she raised two sons. For the past 17 years, Denise has been working in the business administration and project management side of the construction business. At Nautilus, Denise started as the Business Manager but has moved on to Special Projects.  She bounces from marketing campaigns to programming our ServiceMax database in Salesforce to organizing fun outings for the Nautilus Team. In her spare time, Denise can be found reading a book or attempting to play golf.


James Rose, Project Manager, Custom Homes

Originally from Kentucky, James has been a Charleston resident since 1999. He attended Morehead State University and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from University of North Carolina, Charlotte.  James brings over 23 years of building experience to the company and is a licensed builder. Outside of the office James enjoys spending time with his daughter, Peyton, and always looks to be outdoors. His favorite activities include kayaking, camping, repelling and climbing. James also frequents Fleet Landing for their delicious scallops.


Laura Forger, Business Manager

Laura moved to Charleston in June 2014 to begin her career as Business Manager with Nautilus Co. She came to Charleston via. Greensboro NC and Rochester NY, gaining 20+ years of corporate business background through Xerox/GE. During her corporate career, Laura enjoyed her time as a program manager, working with diverse groups of people to produce successful results. She is thrilled to have been given he chance to work with such a wonderful group of people at Nautilus, and now happily spends her time keeping the Nautilus office running smoothly!

She currently lives on James Island with her fiancé Dennis. They are weekly visitors to Folly Beach and love taking in the many historic sights walking around downtown Charleston. Laura has two daughters who currently reside in Western New York.


Chris Jones, Project Manager

Chris joined the Nautilus Company in 2014.  A native of Atlanta, Chris brings over fourteen years experience in residential and commercial construction, project facilitation and team management.  Chris is an alumnus of GA State University with a degree in Planning and Development.  Outside of office hours Chris can be found spending time with his wife and young son. They enjoy trying new restaurants, being on the water and making new friends.


Marty Snyder, Operations Manager


Marty joined the team as the operations manager in January of 2016. Originally from Pennsylvania, Marty moved to the Lowcountry in 2015. He attended The Pennsylvania State University and received his Bachelor’s of Science in Business Logistics. He has gained 17 years of operations management and logistics experience through his previous career at FedEx Ground.

When not at work, Marty enjoys spending time with his wife, walking the dog, hiking, and enjoying the warm weather and all the splendors the Charleston area has to offer. Marty is also very proud of his son that is a Marine and currently stationed in Japan. He also looks forward to volunteering his time with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Charleston.
